Hip-hop culture, in German
German hip-hop grew straight out of the culture that started in the Bronx. In 1992 Advanced Chemistry from Heidelberg released “Fremd im eigenen Land”, a track about the racism faced by Black and immigrant Germans, and it is still seen as one of the founding records of German rap.
Since then artists such as Samy Deluxe from Hamburg have helped build one of the biggest rap scenes in Europe, where hip-hop now tops the German charts week after week.
